Prince Alberts was born in Switzerland in 1926 and grew up in London before settling in the UK.
He was the eldest of nine children of the late King Louis XVIII and the Princess Diana.
The diamond ring was designed to be a symbol of his status as the heir apparent to the throne.
It is one of the most famous diamonds ever made.
The Prince’s parents also owned the royal jewellery business in the 1970s.
The ring is estimated to have sold for around $500 million. (AP)
